Legrand has an exciting opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer to join the Pass & Seymour Team in Syracuse, NY. Join Legrand/Pass & Seymour as a Product Engineer II – Mechanical Design, where you’ll play a key role in designing, developing, and improving innovative electro-mechanical products that power everyday life. You’ll work hands-on with cross-functional teams—from marketing to electrical engineering to advanced manufacturing—to transform ideas into high-volume, high-quality products.

Key Responsibilities
- Design & Development:
Generate sketches, CAD models, assemblies, and drawings using 3D CAD software, Solid Works preferred. - Build and evaluate prototypes to refine concepts through testing, analysis, and validation.
- Apply FEA and engineering calculations to ensure robust, cost-effective designs.
- Integrate printed circuit boards and electrical components into mechanical assemblies.
- Collaboration & Innovation:
Partner with Product Line Managers to align specifications with customer needs and industry standards, and market trends. - Work with Manufacturing, Tooling, and Advanced Engineering teams to optimize designs for manufacturability.
- Collaborate with patent attorneys to safeguard intellectual property and avoid infringement.
- Engage with suppliers, vendors, and customers to resolve technical issues and strengthen product reliability.
- Documentation & Compliance:
Create and maintain engineering drawings, BOMs, ECNs, and quality specifications. - Ensure designs meet UL requirements, ISO
14001, and Eco Design Principles. - Support circular economy initiatives and sustainability-focused product development.
- Ensure compliance with ISO
9001 quality management standards.
Project Leadership & Support
- Manage projects from concept through production, driving timely completion across departments.
- Serve as an on-site technical representative to resolve product performance issues and complaints.
- Lead technical discussions, project meetings, and lab test setups.
Required Skills
Education: Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME) minimum
Experience: 2+ years of relevant experience preferred (equivalent experience considered)
- Strong product design background in electro-mechanical assemblies, injection molding, and progressive die stamped components.
- Proficiency in Solid Works and CAD/Engineering document management tools (e.g., EPDM).
- Familiarity with FEA tools and ability to perform engineering calculations.
- Experience in designing for low-cost, high-volume manufacturing.
- Strong communication skills capable of translating technical concepts across functions and levels.
- Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.
- Knowledge of IoT product development is a plus.
