Overview
Patient Access Representative role eph's Health. This position supports the revenue cycle by accurately processing data related to insurance and demographic information, following unit-specific policies, while maintaining current knowledge of payor requirements. The PAR may initiate processes and assess surgical and diagnostic patient information to be systematically available hospital-wide.
Responsibilities- Enter and update patient registration information into the system and verify data accuracy.
- Provide information related to billing, compliance, patient rights, and HIPAA.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and obtain required authorizations for the patient’s stay.
- Refer uninsured patients to a financial counselor.
- Collect co-pays and deposits; issue receipts at time of payment.
- Communicate with medical/clinical personnel regarding patient access, transfers, discharge processing, reimbursement issues, and authorization requirements.
- Index patient information to hospital systems and coordinate with IS/HIM/ASR teams to ensure accurate information flow.
- Intake physician requests for patient admission; coordinate bed assignments and maintain bed-board status; compile daily census.
- Perform other clerical tasks to support the supervisor (e.g., QA audits) and participate in team scheduling to meet patient flow needs.
- Support orientation for new team members; participate in huddles, meetings, and continuous education activities.
- Demonstrate professional communication, customer service, and adherence to patient privacy.
- Facilitate patient flow by directing patients to correct locations and maintaining good relations with all customers.
- Two years of medical office or customer service experience.
- Participation in orientation and ongoing training; ability to update knowledge related to areas of expertise.
- Word processing and PC experience; basic mathematical skills; effective verbal and written communication; strong human relations skills.
- Related experience in hospital registration, Eclipsys or PHS/HPF and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Clinical setting with Exposure Class I or II, service specific.
- Sedentary work; standing, walking, and sitting for prolonged periods; repetitive motions of hands, fingers, and wrists.
- Work contact with all services, employees, medical staff, patients, visitors, vendors, and regulatory agencies.
- Supervised by:
Patient Access Coordinator;
No direct supervision of others.
- Pay Range: $17.85-$25.90 per hour. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under FLSA will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may vary based on location.
