This position is based in Rochester or Syracuse, NY, or other US locations.
Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis. No sponsorship is available for this position.
Ramboll is seeking an experienced aquatic ecologist with a base of operation in Rochester or Syracuse, NY offices. We are also willing to consider someone to work out of our Albany, NY, Chicago, IL, or Milwaukee, WI office. Our ecology team supports clients with a wide range of environmental issues including watershed planning, clean water planning (TMDL/9EP), biodiversity and ecosystem services, habitat assessment, restoration, and resiliency.

You will join our Environment and Health departmentWe seek an energetic, highly motivated, collaborative, and resourceful project manager to join us. This role involves working with team members from entry level to seasoned experts, fostering a continuous learning environment through coaching, mentoring, and on-the-job experience.
Your key tasks and responsibilities will include:- Managing aquatic ecology, watershed planning, and ecological restoration projects
- Planning and implementing watershed assessments and monitoring studies
- Leading projects in climate adaptation, urban planning, and coastal resiliency
- Collecting field data or overseeing data collection
- Analyzing data statistically (Excel, R)
- Working with Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Writing reports, producing high-quality figures and tables
- Preparing permit applications, supporting documents, and technical reports, and communicating results to clients
- Publishing and presenting findings to peers and stakeholders
- Mentoring junior staff and non-specialists, and supporting project management and client development
- Participating in a network of Ramboll sustainability practitioners across various services
- Optional:
Conducting SWAT, CE-QUALW2, and related watershed and waterbody modeling (preferred but not required)
From day one, Ramboll supports your personal and professional development. For this role, the ideal candidate will have:
- A Master’s or Ph.D. in a discipline relevant to aquatic ecology or limnology (preferred but not mandatory)
- At least 7-10 years of experience in aquatic ecology or related fields (graduate work counts; outside disciplines do not)
- Strong computing skills, including advanced use of spreadsheets and word processing
- Proactive attitude and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and organizational skills
- Experience implementing field studies
- Willingness to travel locally and regionally
