Job DescriptionAECOM is seeking a Part‑Time Geology Supervisor for our Syracuse, NY location. The geologist will need extensive experience conducting geoarchaeological investigations and writing geoarchaeological reports. Tasks include working with archaeologists on geomorphological surveys and archaeological/Geotech soil‑boring monitoring, identifying pre‑contact and historical artifacts, understanding site and feature formation processes, accurately filling out and quality‑checking field and laboratory forms, drawing profiles and plan views, and directing others in these efforts.
The position may involve extensive manual labor, including augering, examining geotechnical borings, long‑distance walking, and excavation with shovels, as well as office work that requires extended periods of computer use. Travel is required; field projects may be located anywhere in the US, and overnight travel of up to two weeks is expected.
- Conduct geoarchaeological investigations and prepare detailed reports.
- Collaborate with archaeologists on geomorphological surveys and soil‑boring monitoring.
- Identify and analyze pre‑contact and historical artifacts.
- Complete and quality‑check field and laboratory documentation.
- Create accurate geological profiles and plan views.
- Lead and supervise field staff.
- Perform manual labor such as augering, excavation, and long‑distance walking.
- Operate office equipment and maintain data on computer systems.
- BA/BS plus six years of related experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Valid Driver’s License and successful completion of AECOM’s Motor Vehicle Records review.
- Proficiency in standard archaeological techniques, including excavation of shovel test pits and test units for all phases of investigation.
- Technical skills in soil and strati graphic analysis.
- US Citizenship is required.
- MA in Geology, Anthropology, or a related field.
- Eight or more years of geoarchaeological fieldwork, supervision, and analysis experience.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively.
- Preparedness for both field and office tasks.
- Relocation is not available.
- Sponsorship is not available.
- Travel overnight and out of state for up to two weeks at a time.
Hourly rate of $42–$46, based on education, qualifications, experience, and work location.
