Work Schedule:
Wednesdays through Saturdays: 1:00pm-11:30pm
Hourly Rate: $17.50/hr (+$1.00/hr Shift Differential for 2nd Shift)
About the RoleAs a Youth Care Specialist, you will create a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment for youth staying in shelter. You’ll act as a consistent, caring adult while helping youth build skills, navigate challenges, and move toward reunification or independent living.
What You'll Do- Build trust and positive relationships with youth as a mentor and role model
- Provide daily support and care using a Positive Youth Development approach
- Share important client updates through documentation and meetings
- Model healthy interactions and use Restorative Justice practices to address conflict
- Support youth in developing independent living skills and working toward family reunification
- Uphold Rescue Mission values, safety protocols, and confidentiality standards
- Maintain a clean, safe environment — including daily cleaning tasks
- Assist with meal preparation for youth
- Promote a safety‑first, harm‑reduction mindset
- Maintain reliable, in‑person attendance
- Perform additional duties as needed to support the program
- High School Diploma or GED (required)
- Associate degree in Human Services or related field (preferred)
- Experience working with adolescents, homeless youth, or individuals facing mental illness/substance use (preferred)
- Must meet OCFS approval requirements to work in the shelter
- Valid NYS Driver’s License (preferred)
