Salary Range: $19.00 To $20.50 Annually
Shuttle Service Dispatcher - Coordinates and reports on shuttle operations to ensure we deliver a safe, efficient, on-time, and excellent passenger transportation service.
VPA has been in the Transportation and Parking Industry for over 35 years and operates a fleet of shuttle vehicles in Syracuse. We are seeking a new team member to help operations run smoothly.
This is an in-person role that can not be performed remotely, and will be located in Syracuse.
Starting Pay Range: $19.00 - $20.50 based on experience and education.
Schedule:
We are seeking both a morning dispatcher to work from 5am-1pm, and an evening dispatcher to work 1pm-9pm.
These are Monday through Friday roles primarily, but flexibility will be needed in the event of other staff needing time off, or large weekend events/etc.

Core Responsibilities
- Dispatching & basic daily tasks:
- Check on the status of vehicles that have gone in for maintenance/inspection and coordinate pickup/delivery.
- Review and edit the schedule as needed with coordination with management.
- Ensure drivers have their proper uniform, proper vehicle, are logged in to various programs, and have instructions for their shifts.
- Coordinate shuttle cleaner’s tasks for that day.
- Real-Time Monitoring:
Track vehicle locations using GPS or radio logs to keep fleets on schedule. Assist passengers with problems requesting rides or tracking shuttles through the shuttle tracking app. - Communication:
Maintain constant contact with drivers via two-way radio, phone, or dispatch software. Be able to take in, document and research customer complaints from staff regarding services. Call locations at various times to ensure staff is onsite. - Problem Solving:
Report traffic delays, accidents, vehicle breakdowns, passenger inquiries, and emergency response coordination. - Recordkeeping:
Complete and email daily, weekly, and monthly reports, review and enter driver hours into payroll, and track vehicle maintenance. Review driver logs for completeness and accuracy. - Safety:
Review video from the vehicle camera system, track employee safety record and create performance reports. - Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
- Communication:
Clear speaking voice and strong active listening skills for passenger and driver interactions. - Multitasking:
Ability to handle multiple live feeds, calls, and schedule updates at the same time. - Tech Proficiency:
Familiarity with GPS tracking, dispatch software, scheduling software, vehicle camera system, and basic office programs. - Composure:
Calm decision-making during high-stress situations like upset customers, drivers, or schedule disruptions. - Education:
Associates / bachelor’s degree in business administration or High school diploma or equivalent with prior customer service or transportation experience is preferred. - Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Basic understanding of geographical area and mapping programs to facilitate efficient routing.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
