The Sustainability, Health and Safety Specialist provides day-to-day operational leadership to ensure safe, sustainable, and responsible airport and infrastructure operations across airside and landside environments. The role focuses on proactive hazard and environment impact management, operational incident investigation, delivery of occupational health and safety improvements, and coordination of sustainability and HSE training initiatives. The position supports operational teams in embedding safe working practices and environmental responsibility into daily activities.
Key Responsibilities Operational Health & Safety Leadership- Provide day-to-day H&S leadership across operational areas, acting as a visible safety presence within airside and landside environments.
- Support operational teams with practical guidance on safe systems of work, risk controls, and sustainability considerations.
- Promote a strong safety and environmental culture through continuous engagement, observation, and coaching.
- Lead and coordinate airside and landside hazard identification, reporting, and mitigation activities.
- Conduct routine site inspections, walkovers, and safety observations to identify unsafe conditions and behaviours.
- Maintain hazard registers and track implementation of corrective and preventive actions with operational teams.
- Lead and support operational incident and near-miss investigations, focusing on root causes, human factors, and system improvements (non-compliance-focused).
- Prepare investigation reports, identify corrective actions, and monitor close-out to prevent recurrence.
- Support operational learning through safety alerts, toolbox talks, and lessons-learned sharing.
- Support the implementation and follow-up of OHS audit actions arising from internal and external audits.
- Track audit findings, corrective actions, and close-out status in coordination with responsible departments.
- Assist with maintaining alignment to OHS management system requirements and internal standards.
- Support integration of sustainability principles into operational activities, including waste management, energy efficiency, and environmental risk reduction.
- Participate in environmental walkovers and self-assurance audits where relevant to operational safety and environment.
- Ensure environmental regulatory compliance by monitoring and reporting to internal and external stakeholders.
- Support sustainability initiatives that reduce operational risk to people and the environment.
- Coordinate H&S and sustainability-related training requirements in collaboration with Learning & Development (L&D).
- Support training needs assessments, scheduling, attendance tracking, and refresher programs.
- Assist with development and delivery of HSE briefings, inductions, and toolbox talks for staff and contractors.
- Work closely with operations, maintenance, airside teams, contractors, and support functions to improve safety and sustainability performance.
- Act as a key point of contact for operational H&S and sustainability matters at site level.
- Plan, coordinate, and deliver community engagement initiatives, including outreach events, awareness campaigns, school programs, and stakeholder consultations.
- Bachelor's degree in Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Sustainability, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Professional certifications (desirable): NEBOSH General Certificate, IOSH Managing Safely, LEED AP O+M Certificate, ISO 14001, ISO 45001 or equivalent.
- 2-4 years' experience in operational H&S or sustainability roles, preferably within aviation, infrastructure, construction, utilities, or industrial environments.
- Experience working in airside and/or high risk operational environments is highly desirable.
