Role Context

This GIS-CAD Technician will support the connection between engineering drawings and geographic information systems, helping project teams maintain accurate spatial data, coordinated layouts, and dependable mapping records. The position strengthens infrastructure planning by ensuring that CAD files, GIS layers, coordinate systems, and project databases remain clean, aligned, and usable across design, utilities, planning, and construction disciplines.

Key Responsibilities
  • Convert and translate data between CAD formats such as DWG and DXF and GIS formats such as shape files, geodatabases, and related spatial datasets.
  • Check spatial alignment, coordinate projections, datums, geometry quality, and attribute accuracy before sharing project information with technical teams.
  • Create, update, and maintain thematic maps, spatial layouts, exhibits, site plans, utility plans, and project presentation materials.
  • Support engineers, planners, and project managers with accurate mapping outputs for design reviews, client meetings, reporting, and field coordination.
  • Populate, update, and manage spatial databases while maintaining project metadata standards, layer naming discipline, and document control requirements.
  • Perform QA/QC checks on geometry, attribution, topology, drawing references, and spatial records to reduce data errors and design coordination issues.
  • Draft and modify 2D CAD layouts, site drawings, utility networks, civil plans, and design details based on sketches, survey information, field data, and technical specifications.
  • Carry out basic spatial analysis tasks including overlays, buffers, selection queries, constraint mapping, and site suitability support.
  • Work with GIS Analysts, CAD Managers, Design Engineers, and project delivery teams to resolve data conversion issues and improve file-sharing workflows.
  • Maintain organized project folders, drawing references, map templates, spatial layers, and version‑controlled datasets.
  • Assist in integrating GIS outputs with CAD design packages to support infrastructure planning, utilities coordination, and master‑planning studies.
  • Use digital tools to improve accuracy, speed, and traceability in mapping, drafting, and geospatial data management tasks.
Ideal Profile
  • Bachelor's degree or diploma in GIS, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, Geography, Surveying, or a closely related technical field.
  • Minimum 5 years of professional experience working with both GIS and CAD platforms.
  • Practical experience supporting infrastructure, utilities, master planning, urban planning, civil engineering, or large development projects.
  • Strong ability to manage CAD‑to‑GIS and GIS‑to‑CAD data conversion with careful attention to scale, coordinates, projection systems, and attribute structure.
  • Proficiency in ESRI platforms, especially ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online.
  • Proficiency in Autodesk tools, particularly AutoCAD and Civil3D.
  • Good understanding of coordinate systems, map projections, datums, spatial data structures, geodatabases, and metadata requirements.
  • Experience with FME, Python scripting, or geospatial data automation is a strong advantage.
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, site sketches, utility information, survey data, and project specifications.
  • Strong attention to detail with the discipline to detect errors in layers, symbols, geometry, attributes, and drawing outputs.
  • Good organizational…
