NEOM, Air Products, and ACWA Power have entered into an agreement for the development of an $8.4 billion green hydrogen-based ammonia production facility in NEOM. The project integrates renewable solar, wind, and storage power and is scheduled to be operational in 2026.
Position SummaryThe Shift Supervisor oversees control operations and the work performed by other control room positions. The role is responsible and accountable for the operation of utility assets, including power plants, transmission lines, distribution systems, substations, DERs, and BESS.
The position directs electric system operations engineering by monitoring, planning, analyzing, directing, and executing 24/7 grid operations to maintain safe and reliable electric service and prevent power outages. The role is also responsible for ensuring the stability and reliability of the electrical grid and managing renewable energy integration.
Key Responsibilities:Grid Operations Management
- Supervise and coordinate day-to-day grid operations activities, including scheduling, dispatching, and real-time monitoring of energy generation and consumption.
- Implement and oversee operational procedures to ensure grid stability, reliability, and compliance with regulatory standards.
- Analyze grid performance data and develop strategies to optimize grid operations efficiency.
- Develop and implement strategies for integrating renewable energy sources, including wind, solar, and hydroelectric power.
- Coordinate with renewable energy developers, transmission operators, and regulatory agencies.
- Optimize renewable energy dispatch and curtailment strategies while maintaining grid stability.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans.
- Coordinate with stakeholders during grid emergencies.
- Conduct training exercises and drills to enhance preparedness.
- Stay informed about industry standards and regulatory requirements.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory obligations and reporting requirements.
- Prepare and submit regulatory reports and operational data.
- Collaborate with internal teams, external partners, and regulatory agencies.
- Communicate updates on grid operations and renewable energy integration.
- Represent the organization in industry forums and working groups.
- Supervise operational EPMS Dispatchers/Schedulers and monitor performance.
- Develop and review standard operating procedures.
- Conduct training plans for operational teams.
- Provide leadership and support staff development.
Experience:
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- Minimum 10 years of experience in grid operations, preferably in a renewable energy focused environment.
- At least 3 years in a senior operations role.
- Minimum 5 years of managerial experience.
- Strong understanding of power system operation principles, grid control strategies, and renewable energy technologies.
- Knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements (FERC, NERC, IEEE).
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, and decision making skills.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience in project management and teamwork.
- Ability to work under pressure.
- Experience in multicultural working environments.
