Role ContextThe Senior Electrical Engineer will provide technical authority across the complete lifecycle of medium voltage (MV) and low voltage (LV) power infrastructure, from design review and equipment procurement through installation, energization, commissioning, and handover. The role covers substations, transformers, switch gear, ring main units, package substations, protection systems, cable networks, grounding arrangements, and power interfaces serving mechanical, ELV, utility, and building systems.
Key Responsibilities- Review medium voltage and low voltage electrical designs, technical specifications, layouts, and calculation packages.
- Assess single line diagrams, load schedules, demand calculations, cable sizing, and equipment ratings.
- Review load flow, voltage drop, short circuit, arc flash, and protection coordination studies.
- Verify transformer sizing, network capacity, redundancy provisions, and future load allowances.
- Evaluate grounding, bonding, lightning protection, and electrical safety designs.
- Confirm compliance with Saudi Electric Company requirements, project specifications, and applicable IEC, IEEE, NEC, and HCIS standards.
- Review contractor shop drawings, material submittals, method statements, technical queries, and installation procedures.
- Supervise the construction of MV and LV substations, electrical rooms, and package substation facilities.
- Monitor installation of transformers, switch gear, RMUs, distribution boards, protection panels, and control systems
- Inspect underground and above ground cable routes, trenches, ducts, trays, containment, joints, and terminations
- Verify cable identification, segregation, bending radii, support spacing, fire stopping, and testing requirements
- Coordinate civil foundations, structural openings, cable trenches, sleeves, equipment access, and ventilation provisions
- Resolve interface issues with mechanical, ELV, ICT, fire protection, automation, and utility systems
- Evaluate technical bids for transformers, switch gear, RMUs, cables, protection relays, and associated equipment
- Review vendor drawings, data sheets, compliance schedules, test certificates, and technical deviations
- Participate in factory acceptance testing for switch gear, transformers, protection panels, and major electrical equipment
- Witness insulation resistance tests, high voltage tests, relay injection, interlock checks, and functional testing
- Review protection relay settings, coordination curves, trip logic, and communication interfaces
- Verify transformer ratio, winding resistance, insulation, oil, and operational test results where applicable
- Review commissioning procedures, energization plans, switching programs, and electrical safety documentation
- Monitor technical defects, failed tests, non conformances, and corrective actions through final closure
- Prepare engineering reviews, inspection reports, commissioning summaries, and executive progress updates
- Mentor junior engineers and provide technical direction to contractors, inspectors, and subcontractors
- Support final handover by reviewing as built drawings, test records, relay settings, manuals, and maintenance documentation
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited university.
- Minimum 10 years of progressive electrical engineering experience.
- Strong specialization in MV and LV distribution systems for infrastructure, utilities, industrial, or major development projects.
- Advanced knowledge of substations, transformers, switch gear, RMUs, protection relays, and power cable networks.
- Proven capability in load flow analysis, short circuit calculations, voltage drop studies, and protection coordination.
- Strong understanding of transformer sizing, relay settings, grounding systems, and network reliability.
