- Develop, implement, and maintain health and safety policies, programs, and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations.
- Conduct regular inspections and audits of facilities, equipment, and processes to identify potential hazards, assess risks, and implement corrective actions.
- Collaborate with department managers and supervisors to promote a culture of safety and ensure compliance with health and safety guidelines.
- Provide training, education, and resources to employees on health and safety practices, procedures, and protocols.
- Investigate accidents, incidents, and near misses, identifying root causes, and developing strategies to prevent future occurrences.
- Maintain accurate records of health and safety incidents, investigations, and corrective actions.
- Stay updated on emerging health and safety regulations and industry best practices, and implement necessary changes to ensure compliance.
- Conduct regular safety meetings, communicating important information and addressing concerns raised by employees.
- Coordinate with external agencies, such as regulatory bodies or insurance providers, to facilitate inspections and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to develop and implement return-to-work programs and manage workers' compensation claims.
- Analyze health and safety data, prepare reports, and present findings to management, recommending improvements and corrective measures.
- Bachelor's degree in occupational health and safety, environmental science, or a related field. Advanced degrees are advantageous.
- Minimum of 15 years of experience in health and safety management, with a proven track record of implementing effective safety programs.
- Strong knowledge of health and safety regulations, standards, and best practices, including OSHA, EPA, or other relevant regulatory bodies.
- Familiarity with industry-specific health and safety requirements (e.g., manufacturing, construction, healthcare, etc.).
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities, with a proactive approach to identifying and mitigating potential risks.
- Ability to conduct thorough investigations, analyze data, and develop effective solutions.
- Certification in occupational health and safety (e.g., CSP, CIH, OHST, etc.) is highly desirable.
- Experience in developing and delivering health and safety training programs.
- Proficiency in using health and safety management systems and software.
