Tacoma, Washington. Tacoma Community College (TCC) is a public associate‑ and bachelor’s‑granting institution serving approximately 10,000 students, 48% students of color, 60% female, median age 26. Summary
This is a full‑time tenure‑track faculty position in the Science, Engineering, and Mathematics (SEM) Division. The successful candidate will teach Organismal Biology, Anatomy and Physiology, General Cell Biology, and related courses to science majors and allied‑health students. The position is expected to start September 2026 and will be on‑campus with opportunities for hybrid and online teaching.
Essential Functions- Prepare and teach Organismal Biology for science majors and Introductory Cell Biology and Human Anatomy & Physiology for allied‑health students (≈ 15 instructional contact hours per week).
- Instruct and support a diverse student population through effective lecture, lab, hybrid, and online pedagogy.
- Provide service to the college, including curriculum development, participation in committees, shared governance, and professional development.
- Advise and mentor students, helping them formulate sound educational and career plans.
- Participate in SEM Division and college equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) efforts and promote an anti‑racist curriculum.
- Recruit and retain historically under‑served science and engineering students, particularly black, brown, and female students.
- Collaborate on strategies to facilitate success for historically underserved populations.
- Participate in program review, instructional assessment, institutional effectiveness, and college accreditation activities.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Master’s degree in biology or a closely related field.
- Teaching experience in both classroom and laboratory settings.
- Teaching experience in, or ability to teach, organismal biology or comparative physiology.
- Teaching experience in, or ability to teach, anatomy and physiology.
- Teaching experience in community colleges.
- Experience in, or demonstrated commitment to, teaching, mentoring, recruiting, and providing services to Black, Brown, and Native American students.
- Commitment to incorporating culturally sustaining and inclusive classroom practices into teaching and mentorship.
- Knowledge and willingness to use contemporary teaching techniques such as collaborative, inquiry‑based, active, and experiential learning.
- Understanding of best practices for safety in the classroom and laboratory.
- Dedication to ongoing professional development and remaining current in the discipline.
- Ability to serve as an accessible mentor to students.
- Successful completion of a criminal history background check.

This is a full‑time tenure‑track faculty position contracted on an annual basis. Salary range: $69,995 – $81,995.
