Instructional Para educator – Title I
LocationTacoma, WA
Position Hours And Pay7 hours per day for 4 days in the first year and 2 days annually thereafter. Pay PSE Salary Schedule Level 5: $24.76 per hour.
Responsibilities- Assist certificated staff with instructional and non‑instructional activities for students considered academically "at risk," working individually or in small groups under a categorical remediation program Title I.
- Maintain program records and prepare classroom materials under the supervision of a Title I Specialist.
- Instruct students individually or in small groups in various subject areas, setting methods to best serve individual students academically and behaviorally under the direction of certificated staff.
- Assist with program compliance, maintaining accurate data and program records on the computer and collecting, inputting, and processing data for the LAP or Title 1 program.
- Work as a member of the program instructional team to provide programs and services to eligible students.
- Pull students out of regular classroom for remediation as directed by the program coordinator and locate, prepare, and modify materials for student use under the direction of certificated staff.
- Communicate with certificated staff concerning individual student needs and progress; assist with developing schedules for tutoring and adapting and presenting lessons.
- Assist with administration of objective screening of students for program qualification and eligibility; set up testing schedules, order tests, score tests, and record results.
- Document progress of assigned student and maintain program coordination records manually and on computer; assist in preparing student progress reports and program achievement tests.
- Maintain a variety of program files and records according to established procedures and timelines, including student lists and program inventory; provide information for program audits and prepare reports as directed.
- Construct learning tools such as flash cards and number games; research and locate learning materials; compile materials for student assignments.
- Supervise student behavior and assist teacher with classroom management; facilitate mastery of social adjustment skills and ensure students stay on task.
Education:
High School diploma or GED required. Associate degree, or two years of higher education, or completion of the Washington State para educator assessment required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated skill in reading, writing, and communicating; knowledge of basic subject areas such as reading and math; ability to remain flexible, organize activities, maintain accurate records, and implement effective behavior management and instructional techniques; knowledge of student safety rules and procedures; ability to use computers and various software packages for student instruction and record keeping.
Requires fingerprinting and background check to determine no convictions involving physical molestation, abuse, injury or neglect of a minor. Must complete training in and adhere to district infection control plan.
