We are seeking a qualified Senior Mechanical Power Engineer to help our clients develop, contract, and implement natural gas and potentially renewable energy generation projects while serving as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer.

HDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. As a Senior Mechanical Engineer, you will be joining a highly capable, multi-discipline team that supports power and energy projects primarily within the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors.

Primary duties typically involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring, and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.

Responsibilities
  • Lead mechanical engineering on projects, including leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both a technical and contractual level.
  • Deliverables typically include construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
  • Project roles will vary based on project size and type and may include lead mechanical engineer, project engineering manager, and possibly project manager; most tasks are performed collaboratively with engineers and designers from several other disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
  • BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET accredited university.
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
  • Gas turbine, steam turbine and/or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.
  • Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
  • Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm desired.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.
  • Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
  • Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.
  • Travel less than 10% for meetings with clients and vendors as well as project site visits.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering
  • A minimum of 10 years of experience
  • Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license
  • Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector
  • Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Office as well as standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit)
