Senior Structural Engineer – Waterfront/Marine About the Role

A nationally recognized engineering consulting firm is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer to join their Group in Tacoma, WA. With the resources of a large, multi-disciplinary organization and the autonomy of a locally led office, this role offers the best of both worlds: challenging projects, career growth, and a collaborative environment.

As a senior team member, you’ll take the lead on marine and waterfront infrastructure projects—from ferry terminals and marinas to shipyards, floating structures, and industrial waterfront facilities. You’ll pair technical depth with leadership skills, mentoring junior staff, and working closely with clients to deliver projects that directly impact communities.

What You’ll Do
  • Lead structural design efforts on complex waterfront projects, including pile foundations, bulkhead walls, prestressed concrete, and seismic design.
  • Manage project scope, budgets, and schedules while coordinating across disciplines.
  • Conduct site visits and inspections to ensure technical excellence and compliance.
  • Mentor engineers and foster knowledge‑sharing within the team.
  • Build strong client relationships and serve as a trusted technical advisor.
What We’re Looking For
  • 15+ years of structural design experience, ideally with waterfront or marine infrastructure.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (structural emphasis required);
    Master’s preferred.
  • Licensed Structural Engineer (SE).
  • Expertise in concrete, steel, and timber design, plus experience with piles, bulkhead walls, prestressed concrete, and seismic design.
  • Knowledge of ASCE 61‑14, AASHTO, IBC, ASCE‑7, AISC, ACI, and NDS.
  • Software proficiency in SAP
2000, L‑Pile, Excel, and VBA preferred.
  • Strong communicator with proven ability to lead projects and engage clients.
Benefits
  • Base salary of $150,000 – $230,000, commensurate with experience, plus performance‑based bonuses.
  • Full benefits package: 401(k) with employer contribution, health/dental/vision insurance, PTO, paid family leave (including maternity and paternity leave), and disability coverage.
  • Hybrid work flexibility and support for professional licensure.
  • Career development through mentorship programs, professional education, and exposure to landmark projects.
  • A supportive, people‑focused culture with regular team events and opportunities for community involvement.
Why Join

This is more than a technical role; it’s a chance to leave your mark on critical waterfront infrastructure projects while shaping the next generation of engineers. If you’re looking for a role that blends hands‑on technical challenge, leadership, and long‑term career opportunity within a respected national firm, this is the place to do it.
