Job Title: Hindi Interpreter

Location: Tacoma, onsite servicing Pierce County

Job Type: Independent Contractor

Position Overview: The Hindi In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers opportunities to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.

Job Functions:

• Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
• Exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness.
• Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
• Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
• Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
• Respect and understand LEP clients, their culture, dialect, beliefs, and preferences.
• Maintain a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
• Speak clearly in both languages with proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
• Render accurate concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.

Qualifications:

• Fluent in both source and target languages with strong verbal communication skills (Hindi to English and vice versa).
• Excellent listening and retention skills for high accuracy during interpretation.
• Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
• Knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, NCIHC).
• Must be at least 18 years old.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
• Degrees or certifications in interpreting practices.
• National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
• Accredited Medical Interpreting Training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
