Cambodian In-Person Interpreter (IPI)

Overview

Position Overview: The Cambodian In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and the practitioners who serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.

Responsibilities
  • Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
  • Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
  • Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
  • Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
  • Respect LEP clients, their culture, dialect and beliefs, and preferences.
  • Display a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
  • Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
  • Render exact concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
Qualifications
  • Fluent in both Cambodian and English with strong verbal communication skills (Cambodian to English and vice versa).
  • Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
  • Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
  • Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, and NCIHC).
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
  • Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
  • National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
  • Accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
