Cambodian In-Person Interpreter (IPI)
Cambodian Interpreter to service Tacoma, onsite for Pierce County. Job Type: Independent Contractor.

OverviewPosition Overview: The Cambodian In-Person Interpreter is responsible for facilitating onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients and the practitioners who serve them in a variety of settings. This contract position is flexible and offers an opportunity to expand your interpreting business with access to many sessions per day.
Responsibilities- Provide effective onsite interpreting sessions in a professional manner.
- Maintain a professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for sessions.
- Adapt quickly to new and changing situations.
- Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context.
- Demonstrate commitment to cultural sensitivity and working in a diverse environment.
- Respect LEP clients, their culture, dialect and beliefs, and preferences.
- Display a strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
- Speak clearly in both languages using proper pronunciation, enunciation, and polite expressions.
- Render exact concepts and meanings according to interpreter protocol.
- Fluent in both Cambodian and English with strong verbal communication skills (Cambodian to English and vice versa).
- Excellent listening and retention skills to maintain a high level of accuracy during interpretation.
- Successful completion of a proficiency assessment or possession of a national certification.
- Extensive knowledge of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI, and NCIHC).
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Ability to read and write in the requested languages.
- Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
- National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI, NBCMI, or DSHS.
- Accredited medical interpreting training courses (e.g., ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
