Nurse (Operating Room) – Joint Base Lewis‑McChord, WA (Madigan)
Joint Base Lewis‑McChord is located near Tacoma, Washington. The facility includes Madigan Army Medical Center, a Level 2 trauma center.
OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Operating Room Nurse to provide perioperative nursing care across a range of surgical services, supporting complex and extensive procedures for patients of all ages, including trauma cases.
Responsibilities- Incumbent serves as an Operating Room Nurse providing perioperative nursing care in a multi‑service operating room supporting a full range of surgical nursing services for complex and extensive surgical procedures. Intra‑operatively manages nursing care of patients of all ages undergoing major surgical procedures such as dental rehabilitation, cesarean childbirth, general, gynecological, orthopedic, neurological, genito‑urological, ophthalmology, plastic and reconstructive, podiatry, thoracic, vascular, and ENT.
Performs duties in support of all phases of perioperative care (pre‑operative, intra‑operative, and PACU) and sterile processing. - Performs circulating roles of a perioperative nurse, ensuring sterile technique and anticipating the surgical team’s needs. Collaborates with surgeons to assess, coordinate, and plan the care of patients, ensures aseptic technique during preparation, verifies counts, prepares equipment, monitors anesthesia and patient response, and implements evidence‑based practice and quality improvement projects.
- Provides direction and on‑the‑job training to military and civilian personnel, medical students, residents, and other healthcare professionals; serves as preceptor, teacher, and role model for interdisciplinary staff.
- Operates and assists in the care and handling of a variety of supplies and highly specialized equipment, including operating instruments, surgical lasers, electrosurgical units, and robotic equipment, ensuring proper prep, maintenance, and sterilization.
- As required, functions as charge nurse for a particular shift, managing quality, cost‑effective nursing care, workload distribution, staff assignments, and completing required training and continuing education.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

- Degree:
Bachelor’s, Associate Degree, Diploma, or higher from an accredited nursing program; or a foreign nursing license with required Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools certification. - Licensure:
Current, active, full and unrestricted nursing license/registration from a state, D.C., Puerto Rico, or U.S. territory, with NCLEX passed. - Experience:
• At least one full year of professional nursing experience after graduation (for diploma/associate).
• OR a PhD/Doctoral degree in Nursing or related field. - Additional requirements:
