Job Description
American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a CVICU float pool position offering night shifts and advanced cardiac care responsibilities.
Responsibilities- Position is based in a hospital Pulse Heart Float Pool within a Level II Trauma Center
- Work exclusively in CVICU with potential floating to CCU or other ICU-level units
- Night shifts are 12 hours in duration with every other weekend required
- Patient population includes post-op CABG, esophagectomy, TAVR, AAA repair, thoracic and vascular surgeries, and post-arrest care
- Expected patient ratio is 1:2 for standard care, 1:1 if higher acuity (CRRT, hypothermia, balloon pump)
- Epic EMR is used;
Cerner experience acceptable - Bedside monitoring includes telemetry
- Assignment length is 13 weeks
- First-time travelers are welcome for consideration
- Two days of general orientation and a full shift spread across three units will be provided
- Hospitalist, respiratory therapist, intensivist, and tech support are available 24/7
- Must complete and document hourly rounding, fill out whiteboards, and provide bedside reports
- Strict protocols for medication security and verification, including two-nurse verification for wasting controlled substances
- Document pain assessments before and after pain medication administration
- No phones permitted on the unit, and scheduled breaks are mandatory
- Scrubs can be any color except black
- Active RN license for WA or compact state, in hand or pending
- Minimum of 2 years CVICU nursing experience required
- Certifications:
ACLS, BLS, and NIH Stroke Scale - Strong skills in cardiac rhythm interpretation, chest tubes, lumbar drains, vent management, invasive line (A-line, CVP, Swan), external pacemakers, BiPAP, abdominal pressure monitoring, and tracheostomy care
- Proficiency with vasoactive and cardiac drip titration (Propofol, Precedex, Fentanyl, Versed, Cardizem, Dopamine, Dobutamine, Nicardipine, Levophed, Epi)
- Ability to pass a telemetry competency exam prior to start
