We’re looking for a Fleet Safety Technician to join our team at Around the Sound!
About the RoleThe Fleet Safety Technician plays a critical dual role in supporting both the maintenance and safety operations of the company’s vehicle fleet. This position combines hands‑on mechanical skills with field‑based safety responsibilities, ensuring that vehicles remain in optimal condition and that incidents are responded to quickly and professionally. The ideal candidate is mechanically inclined, detail‑oriented, and capable of working in the field to support drivers, investigate incidents, and uphold safety standards.
Dutiesand Responsibilities Fleet Maintenance & Inspections
- Perform routine inspections on vehicles to identify mechanical or safety issues.
- Conduct minor repairs, adjustments, and preventive maintenance as assigned.
- Report major mechanical issues to senior mechanics or management.
- Ensure all vehicles meet company and regulatory safety standards before deployment.
- Maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities.
- Respond to vehicle incidents, breakdowns, or emergencies in the field.
- Assist with incident investigations, including collecting driver statements, photos, and supporting documentation.
- Evaluate scene safety and take appropriate corrective actions when needed.
- Support drivers with safety concerns, roadside assistance, or operational guidance.
- Conduct spot‑checks on driver behavior, vehicle cleanliness, and compliance with safety policies.
- Assist with implementing company safety programs, procedures, and training.
- Monitor fleet safety equipment and ensure proper stocking.
- Participate in safety meetings, training, and audits as required.
- Document all field incidents, inspections, and maintenance activities in company systems.
- Provide timely reports to the Safety and Maintenance departments.
- Recommend improvements to reduce incidents and promote safe operations.
- Mechanical aptitude or previous experience as a mechanic, technician, or similar role.
- Experience in fleet, transportation, or safety‑related work preferred.
- Ability to perform basic vehicle diagnostics and minor repairs.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, especially in field or emergency situations.
- Good communication skills for interacting with drivers, management, and external partners.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to work on‑call or respond to incidents outside standard hours when necessary.
