The Dispatch Supervisor at our Tacoma location will lead and supervise the dispatch and logistics function to ensure safe, efficient and cost-effective delivery of traffic control services. This role manages people, directs daily and future workload planning, and exercises independent decision-making that impacts labor costs, operational risk, customer experience and resource allocation.
Responsibilities- Conduct interviews and make final hiring decisions for dispatch and traffic control candidates within approved headcount.
- Provide disciplinary action when necessary, including delivering verbal and written corrective measures in partnership with HR and the Traffic Control Manager.
- Conduct performance check-ins and participate in annual reviews, promotions and development planning for field crew.
Operational Decision-Making
- Develop and implement dispatch strategies that balance staffing levels, customer needs, safety and cost control.
- Make independent decisions regarding overtime, job prioritization, workload distribution and use of external labor (including union hall requests).
- Forecast resource needs for daily operations, 2–4-day planning, and 30/60-day workforce planning.
- Review and approve time records, scheduling accuracy and routing decisions that impact profitability and customer satisfaction.
Scheduling & Dispatch Leadership
- Oversee the scheduling of flaggers, techs, TMA drivers and other road crews, ensuring adequate coverage for rental and traffic control jobs.
- Maintain standards for dispatch accuracy, quality control, time approval, equipment needs and documentation for job setups.
- Set service expectations for internal and external communication, including coordination with supervisors, crews, contractors and union partners.
Business & Customer Impact
- Resolve escalated customer and field issues, exercising discretion on scheduling adjustments, service recovery and contractual clarifications.
- Ensure correct contract and paperwork details before dispatch to prevent billing disputes and revenue loss.
- Provide operational recommendations that improve utilization, reduce overtime spending and increase service reliability.
Compliance & Process Control
- Enforce company policies, safety rules, union agreements and legal requirements regarding hours of work, rest periods and crew qualifications.
- Maintain and improve SOPs for dispatch operations and time approval.
- Ensure compliance with unemployment filings, job correspondence and workforce documentation.
Other Leadership Duties
- Represent dispatch in operational and branch meetings.
- Maintain on-call responsibilities and storm duty leadership.
- Identify workflow improvements and support LEAN initiatives.
- Other duties as assigned.
- Reliable, punctual and able to work with little supervision
- Availability to work overtime as required
- Adhere to our safety program fully including passing a drug/alcohol test
- Experience with Microsoft Office 365 operation system
- Knowledge of the rental shop, install, traffic tech, dispatch and coordinator roles
- Completed the LEAN course
- College education in business, supply chain management, logistics, or production management.
- 2-3 years’ lane closure experience an asset
- 3-5 years of Dispatch/Logistics experience an asset
- Training will be provided to the right candidate
