Senior Explosives Safety Assessment Specialist

Location: RG7 4PR, located between Reading and Basingstoke, with free onsite parking.

Package:
From £47,690 pa
(depending on your suitability, qualifications, and level of experience)

It's an exciting time to join the Environment, Safety and Health function at AWE, we are transforming the way we work and continuing to support the demand of the business. We are interested in hearing from candidates at various stages of their careers who have a working knowledge of safety assessments on explosives projects and are interested in developing their career with us.

As a Senior Explosives Safety Assessment Specialist, you will provide subject matter expertise in the assessment of explosive hazards associated with actual, planned and/or decommissioned facilities, plant, equipment or product associated with AWE's explosives business.

Our explosives safety assessment team are at the forefront of a wide variety of work, involving ground-breaking innovation and technical challenges across a wide range of projects associated with:

  • AWE's multibillion-pound Capital Programme of new facilities
  • Planning future systems in support of the UK's long-term strategic deterrent.
  • Maintaining and extending the life of existing facilities
  • Decommissioning of the redundant facilities.
Ideally you will have demonstrable experience of working on multi-disciplined projects and be familiar with one or more of the following areas:

  • Produce risk assessments and safety justifications for a range of facilities where explosives manufacture, storage or decommissioning activities take place.
  • Advise on strategies for the development of suitable and sufficient safety assessments/risk assessments associated with explosives manufacture, storage or decommissioning and the correct controls that must be in place.
  • Complete potentially complex safety analyses, assessments, and associated documentation.
  • Explosives Hazardous Area Classification (HAC) and an understanding of the Dangerous Substances Explosives Atmosphere Regulations (DSEAR) 2002.
To be considered for this position you will need:

  • Experience in the field of safety assessment for explosives hazards
  • The ability to undertake a range of safety assessment techniques
  • Extensive practical experience in explosives and explosives safety and/or a Degree in a science or engineering based subject or vocational qualification (HND or equivalent)
  • To have worked/operated in a high hazard and/or highly regulated industry
  • To have a working understanding of the HSE Explosives Regulations 2014 and/or the MoD's DSA
