Job SummaryProvides nursing assistance to doctors and nurses in the care and treatment of patients across the lifespan, including medical, surgical, pediatric, psychiatric, and obstetrical patients. Provides a broad range of duties in an inpatient setting, including but not limited to administrative and clinical functions within their scope of practice, training, and applicable rules and regulations.
Job DutiesRoutine duties shall include providing health care services to individuals eligible for services in accordance with the self‑governance compact and funding agreement between the Cherokee Nation and the United States executed under the authority of the Indian Self‑Determination and Education Assistance Act.
Provides a variety of personal nursing care and diagnostic support duties; performs simple treatments, charting, and patient teaching tasks. Provides the patient with information/instructions.
Gives prevention reminders.
Personal nursing care may include feeding, bathing, lifting, turning, oral care, nail care, hair care, and related personal hygiene duties. Recognizes and reports gross changes in the patient’s condition.
Supporting diagnostic duties may include taking, recording, and reporting to the registered nurse deviations in vital signs; collecting, labeling, and transporting specimens to the laboratory. Measures and records intake and output if requested. Assists the doctor in a variety of diagnostic examinations by positioning and draping the patient, and passing instruments and supplies if requested.
Collects and prepares laboratory specimens and/or performs laboratory tests (if trained and maintains competency), but does not perform assessments.
Changes simple, non‑complex dressings. Applies simple dressing, binders, and heat and cold locally, and observes and reports wound condition and drainage if requested.
Removes sutures after licensed nurse/professional has performed assessment.
Assists in monitoring patients receiving treatments and reports deviations to nurse.
Assists in screening, admitting, and discharging patients. Gathers and records specific information from the patient. Takes and records vital signs and body measurements.
Performs EKGs.
Reinforces instructions given to the patient by the physicians and registered nurses.
Maintains a clean and safe environment for the patient. Changes occupied patient beds, supply cupboards, utility rooms, used equipment, etc. Sorts supplies and linens as needed. Reports defective equipment and deficient supplies.
Performs clerical duties when appropriate such as, but not limited to printing summaries, patient labels, and face sheets, applying armbands, and discharging patients out of the computer.
Maintains inventory and restocks supplies in patient rooms.
Adheres to professional and ethical standards.
Other assigned duties after formal orientation and competency performed.
Maintain HIPAA compliance and confidentiality at all times and protect all personal health information (PHI) as it relates to patient data.
Other duties may be assigned.
Supervisory ResponsibilitiesNo supervisory responsibilities are required.
Qualifications Educational RequirementHigh school diploma or general education degree (GED); or six months related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Experience RequirementNone required.
Computer SkillsAn individual should know Database software;
Human Resource systems;
Internet software;
Order processing systems and Payroll systems.
Basic Life Support (BLS) can be obtained through orientation and must be maintained throughout employment.
Other QualificationsKnowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation, and medical terminology.
Educated on and compliant with HIPAA regulations; maintains strict confidentiality of client information.
