This clinical position is responsible for providing mental health counseling services (remote and face to face) and supervision to other clinical staff for the purposes of practicum, internship, or licensure as qualifications allow. Mental health services include, but may not be limited to: therapy, assessment/screening, and crisis response. The position assists in providing training, programming, and marketing to the campus community pertaining to mental health.

• Provides direct service in the form of short‑term individual counseling related to students’ mental health and personal and education concerns. Addresses issues relating to stress, coping skills, and academic progress/retention.
• Provides crisis intervention for critical incidents or individual clinical emergencies – e.g., short‑term crisis therapy, assessment for in‑patient care or other safety planning.
• Provides training to faculty and staff related to mental health issues. Creates and delivers presentations regarding student mental health and other related issues.
• Assists with Behavioral Intervention Team efforts.
• Serves on various divisional and university committees.
• Coordinates Marketing and Prevention (programming) efforts.
• Performs drug and alcohol assessments as part of the student conduct process.
• Conducts LPC counselor supervision and/or practicum/intern supervision in accordance with associated rules and regulations.
• Assists direct supervisor with assessment and report writing.
• Assists supervisor with day‑to‑day functioning of clinical services.
• Performs related duties as assigned.

• Knowledge of Licensed Professional Counseling guidelines, standards, and regulations.
• Knowledge of best practice methods in crisis intervention.
• Knowledge of behavioral assessment standards.
• Skill in the operation of computers and job‑related software programs.
• Skill in decision making and problem solving.
• Skill in interpersonal relations and in dealing with the public.
• Skill in oral and written communication.

The work consists of varied professional counseling duties. The unique and challenging nature of client cases contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to direct and participate in the provision of counseling services to university students. Success in this position contributes to the successful provision of those services.

Contacts are typically with co‑workers, other university personnel, faculty, staff, students, representatives of community service organizations, and members of the general public. Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, to provide services, to motivate persons, or to justify, defend or settle matters.

The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, bending, reaching, or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light objects. On‑call and after‑hours availability required. The work is typically performed in an office.

This position may supervise undergraduate, graduate, practicum students, interns, candidates for licensure or other developing counselors as qualifications and licenses/certifications allow.

• Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with the completion of a master’s degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
