The Rural Music Program Development initiative combats local poverty by expanding organizational capacity and program reach across Hulbert Public Schools’ music and band programs. By collaborating with administration to establish summer programming and integrate community partnerships, the project creates a safe, nurturing environment for underserved youth while mobilizing families to build a healthy, sustainable community network.
Member DutiesTo alleviate rural poverty and expand arts access, the HPS Community & Programs Coordinator VISTA will collaborate with Hulbert Public Schools administration and music faculty to build organizational capacity and launch new music and band initiatives. This project establishes sustainable program infrastructure, summer learning opportunities, and community partnerships that provide underserved youth with a safe, creative environment and long-term support. Specifically, the VISTA will build a standardized instrument and uniform inventory, establish maintenance and repair procedures, organize equipment, and coordinate classroom visits from high school, college, and community musicians.
Through informed programming and increased community involvement, the initiative creates lasting resources that protect high-risk youth, empower families, and strengthen community resilience.
