JOB SUMMARYThis position oversees all aspects of the Women’s Wrestling program at Northeastern State University and is responsible for building and leading a competitive NCAA Division II wrestling program.
This position is classified as a 12-month full-time at-will employment appointment with administrative (30%) and coaching (teaching) (70%) responsibilities.
MAJOR DUTIES- Leads the overall management of the Women’s Wrestling program in alignment with the mission and values of NSU, the MIAA, and NCAA Division II.
- Plans, organizes, and conducts practices, training sessions, and competitions.
- Directs the recruitment and retention of quality student-athletes who reflect NSU’s academic standards and competitive expectations.
- Oversees academic monitoring and student-athlete development initiatives.
- Manages the program budget, purchasing, equipment, and travel.
- Supervises any assistant coaches, student managers, and volunteers.
- Ensures compliance with all institutional, conference, and NCAA policies and procedures.
- Promotes community engagement and university visibility through outreach, camps, and fundraising efforts.
- Collaborates with sports medicine, strength and conditioning, compliance, academics, and athletic communications for program success.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Comprehensive knowledge of wrestling coaching techniques, training, and strategy.
- Familiarity with NCAA compliance standards and academic eligibility requirements.
- Budget management and team operations experience.
- Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to foster a culture of accountability, discipline, and integrity.
Reports to the Director of Athletics or designee. Work is reviewed through outcomes, team performance, and compliance with department and institutional policies.
GUIDELINESWork follows NCAA, MIAA, and university regulations, policies, and procedures, with room for discretion in execution and coaching methods.
COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORKThis position requires balancing athletic excellence, student development, and program administration. Success depends on effective leadership, recruiting, teaching, and compliance.
CONTACTSContacts include student-athletes, staff, faculty, administrators, alumni, boosters, conference officials, and the general public.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS / WORK ENVIRONMENTWork is performed indoors and outdoors. Physical demands include lifting, demonstrating techniques, and traveling with the team. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is required.
SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITYDirect supervision over any assistant coaches, graduate assistants, managers, and student support staff.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
- Experience in coaching wrestling at the collegiate or high school level.
- NCAA recruiting certification (must be obtained within 6 months of employment).
- Master’s degree.
- Experience as a collegiate head coach or lead assistant coach.
