Craft Recruiting has partnered with a high-growth specialty finance and fintech lending platform to identify a hands-on, high-impact Financial Controller.
Reporting directly to the Founder and CEO, you will serve as the sole financial architect and operational backbone of the company's accounting function. This is an autonomous, high-ownership role designed for a builder who thrives without bureaucratic layers—someone who can manage the day-to-day general ledger, own high-velocity lending cash flows, ensure rigorous revenue recognition, and deliver strategic financial reporting directly to executive leadership.

Core Selection Criteria
To be considered, candidates should demonstrate proficiency in at least two of the following areas:

• Specialty Lending or Fin Tech

Experience:

4+ years of hands-on accounting experience within specialty finance, private credit, asset-based lending, merchant cash advance, or commercial fintech.

• Technical Accounting & Revenue Governance:
Deep working knowledge of GAAP, ASC 606 revenue recognition for loan and credit portfolios, debt facility compliance, and multi-entity or SPV consolidations.

• End-to-End Hands-On Leadership:
Proven background as a Controller, Assistant Controller, or Senior Accounting Manager owning the full-cycle month-end close, audit management, and high-volume bank and cash reconciliations from scratch.

Key Responsibilities

• Full-Cycle General Ledger & Close Ownership:
Own and execute the entire monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process from start to finish—including reconciliations, accruals, fixed assets, intercompany entries, and variance flux analysis.

• Cash Flow Management & Treasury Operations:
Oversee daily liquidity, high-velocity remittance reconciliations, loan funding disbursements, and bank account movements. Partner directly with leadership on cash-to-equity tracking and short-term liquidity forecasting.

• Revenue Recognition & Compliance:
Ensure rigorous GAAP and ASC 606 compliance across all lending products, portfolio yields, servicing fees, and loss provisions.

• Debt Facility & Lender Reporting:
Prepare borrowing base certificates, warehouse line compliance packages, and audit documentation required by institutional funding partners.

• Audit & Tax Coordination:
Lead external financial statement audits, serve as the primary liaison for outside CPA and tax advisory firms, and ensure complete work paper accuracy.

• Systems & Process Modernization:
Continually refine financial workflows, bridge data flows between loan servicing platforms and core accounting systems (Net Suite, Quick Books, etc.), and implement automation to keep accounting overhead lean.

• Executive Decision Support:
Prepare concise monthly financial packages, KPI dashboards, and board-ready executive summaries for executive leadership to support strategic decisions and capital raises.

Qualifications & Background

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related business discipline;
Master's in Accounting or active CPA is a strong plus.

•

Experience:

5–10+ years of progressive accounting and financial management experience, ideally combining an early public accounting foundation with hands-on corporate accounting in private credit, lending, or fintech.

• Software Proficiency:
Strong hands-on proficiency with modern cloud accounting platforms (Net Suite, Quick Books), advanced Excel (pivot tables, complex financial modeling), and experience working with loan management/servicing data.
