Position Overview

Provide a flexible program and classroom environment that supports student learning and personal growth at the Academy South – Dania Beach, FL 33312.

• Provide a safe, happy, and healthy environment in which children can grow and learn.
• Create a warm, child‑centered environment.
• Recognize and cater to each child’s individual needs.
• Encourage active exploration of the world and help children learn about themselves and their place in it.
• Help children develop positive self‑esteem.
• Provide discipline in a positive and consistent manner, using redirection, positive reinforcement, and positive guidance.
• Give children opportunities to make choices.
• Offer an environment that encourages play, curiosity, problem‑solving, and exploration.
• Maintain a balanced schedule including indoor and outdoor play, individual, small‑group, and large‑group activities, large and fine motor skill work, child‑initiated and teacher‑initiated tasks, and quiet as well as active activities.
• Take responsibility for classroom management.
• Plan age‑appropriate weekly lesson plans and monthly calendars.
• Communicate with parents about a child’s day through share sheets, parent‑teacher conferences, and verbal communications.
• Follow programs and recommendations of the Lead Teacher.
• Report parental concerns to the Educational Director or Social Worker.
• Report any sign of abuse to the Educational Director or Social Worker.
• Report accidents to the school nurse.
• Supervise a teacher aide in the classroom if applicable.
• Make recommendations regarding a child’s placement.
• Purchase small supplies through petty cash as needed.
• Provide activities during after‑care programs.
• Use the Easy IEP system proficiently.
• Collect data and record goal progress twice weekly.
• Write PLP and measurable goals and objectives.
• Work with outside agencies to improve program quality.

• Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or related field, or a two‑year degree with coursework toward early childhood education, or two years of college with six or more hours in early childhood education, or certification from a Child Development Associate Credentializing Program.

• Valid Florida Driver’s License
• HIV Course completion, CPR certification, 40‑hour child‑care course, and annual 10‑hour in‑service trainings
• Confidentiality Agreement signed upon commencement of service

• Read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Write routine reports and correspondence.
• Speak effectively before groups of customers or employees.

• Noise level is usually moderate.
• Occasional exposure to fumes or airborne particles.
• Occasional standing, walking, sitting, using hands, reaching, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and talking or hearing.
• Occasional lifting or moving up to 35 pounds.
• Required visual abilities include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

• Step Up Scholarship for students with unique abilities (Pre‑K through 8th grade) with private therapy services for qualifying students.
• Early Learning Coalition of Broward County School Readiness Program for children ages 1 to 3 with Early Steps therapy services for qualifying students.
• Employee Daycare for ages 1 through 5, inclusive of breakfast, lunch, and snacks.
• Childcare support during Broward County non‑school days such as winter break, spring break, and Thanksgiving break, except for major holidays.
