The Florida Department of Health is seeking an Environmental Consultant to join the Bureau of Environmental Health, Public Health Toxicology section. This is a highly responsible position performed under the general supervision of the Environmental Administrator.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This highly technical position is responsible for the assessment of potential human health effects from exposure to indoor radon and other air contaminants, including biological, physical and chemical agents and the management of state data related to radon occurrence, exposure and risk. The employee must possess a strong background in collecting, managing and analyzing scientific data. The employee must be skilled in communicating the relationship between hazards and risks associated with radon exposure and indoor air pollutants to the public.

Assists Program Administrator in managing programmatic grant activities in accordance with program requirements including preparing grant application packages, projecting and scheduling projects and activities and preparing grant reports.

Coordinates and conducts public workshops, seminars, and trainings regarding radon measurement, mitigation and risk for a wide range of audiences. Develops partnerships with external groups for environmental health related outreach and creates educational environmental health related materials.

Coordinates statewide data collection and data entry of radon measurements. Conducts and evaluates statistical analysis of radon measurement and mitigation results for impact on public health. Prepares technical reports for publication regarding findings.

Assists to verbal and written inquiries about radon, including requirements for department certification and radon measurement protocols. Assists coordinating and responding to nonroutine and special investigation radon and indoor air inquiries from the public. Prepares reports of findings.

Suggests rule and policy changes to incorporate new program requirements. Analyzes fiscal, public, and private sector impact of rule amendments and coordinates with affected groups to assure all repercussions are considered prior to promulgation. Develops required rule revision/development documents for Department approval.

Assists managing and coordinating development and maintenance of radon information provided on department web site.

Coordinates approval of informational materials with the Department’s Office of Communication to develop professional brochures and explanatory circulars.

Incumbent may be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in special needs or Red Cross shelters, or to perform other emergency. Duties including, but not limited to, responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, man‑made or natural.

Handle all other duties assigned by supervisor within established time frames.
