Your Specific Responsibilities:This is a highly professional position within the STD Section. This position will serve as one of two data entry personnel. This position is mainly responsible for data entry from disease reports or lab results into the state’s surveillance database of reported sexually transmitted diseases:
Surveillance Tools and Reporting System (STARS). Another duty is to answer and route phone calls from the public and other STD professionals to the appropriate person(s) within the section. The individual will require excellent customer service, organizational, verbal and written communication, and interpersonal relationship skills. The incumbent in this position requires minimal supervision in their task of data entry of sensitive STD laboratory results.
This position is a full‑time, in‑office position housed at the Florida Department of Health in Tallahassee, FL. Since job duties require the employee to be in the office, teleworking is not an option.
Specific job duties this position will be responsible for include:
- Searching, reviewing, and entering patient demographics, address, and other locating information, into the surveillance application.
- Searching, reviewing, and entering STD laboratory results, provider information, and treatment into the surveillance application.
- Scanning, downloading, and faxing.
- Answering and forwarding phone calls.
Participates in all mandatory trainings/meetings.
Checks emails and phone messages regularly. Performs other duties not considered routine to support the mission of the STD program, Department, and agency.
May be required to work during or beyond normal work hours or days in the event of an emergency. Emergency duty required of the incumbent includes working in Special Needs Shelters, or to perform other emergency duties including but not limited to responses to or threats involving any disaster or threat of disaster, manmade or natural.
Performs other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:- Knowledge of general office procedures and practices.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (e.g., Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, multi‑line telephone, scanner, printer, and facsimile.
- Ability to prioritize workloads.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Ability to communicate effectively with others in writing and verbally.
- Ability to ensure proper completion of work assignments.
- Knowledge to seek consultation from supervisor when needed.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
- Ability to work independently.
- Ability to practice good work ethics including reporting to work on time, wearing appropriate FDOH identification at all times, and treating others with dignity and respect.
