Responsibilities

The Director of Research Administration will provide leadership, oversight, and coordination of all research administration for the FAMU-FSU College of Engineering. This role ensures seamless navigation of both FAMU and FSU research administrative systems, supporting faculty and staff across the College in proposal development, award management, compliance, projection, and reporting. The Director manages a team of research support staff within the Dean’s Office as well as providing oversight of research operations within the academic departments and serves as the College’s principal liaison with both universities’ central research administration offices.

The Director is the leading role in supporting and coordinating the development of major proposals in the College. The position reports to the Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies with a dotted line to the Assistant Dean for Administration.

The Director of Research Administration will provide leadership, oversight, training, professional development, and pre- and post-award operations. Coordinate and manage the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of all assigned research staff. Develop and implement strategies to engage faculty and research staff in improving research strategies and processes. Responsibility for supervising subordinates to include assigning workload and responsibilities, time and leave approvals, and annual performance reviews.

The Director of Research Administration will serve as the primary point of contact for the College with FAMU Division of Research, FSU Offices of Research and other related offices to facilitate the advancement of all research and sponsored project activities and research contracts within the College of Engineering through a variety of efforts. Create and manage all research-related policies and procedures.

Coordinates with Assistant Dean for Administration, Director of Finance, and the HR Director to develop and ensure research administration processes align with both FAMU and FSU policies, including HR, procurement, IRB/IACUC, and federal, state, and university compliance to ensure effective financial management of sponsored projects. Advise and train faculty, staff, and graduate students on proposal and award procedures; develop resources and guidance materials.

Monitor College-level sponsored project portfolios, supervise production of reconciliations, ensure timely and accurate financial reporting, and resolve discrepancies. Manages the tuition waiver journal correction process. Review and approve all proposals and cost share proposals as needed on behalf of the College. Prepares integrated financial and statistical reports, financial statements, and/or budget projections for short and/or long-term impact(s) on sponsored funding. Provide regular reports on proposal submissions, awards, expenditures, and compliance for the Dean, Associate Dean for Research, and related offices.

Participate and coordinate with other leaders of college leadership to support college goals and activities. Maintain working relationships with internal and external partners. Support special projects or major research initiatives or proposals as well as other duties as assigned. Provide backup and emergency assistance with the COE's research and sponsored project activities as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and six years' experience related to budget, financial and/or accounting services or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of experience in the same area. (
