Job Overview

Assistant in Training (AIT) and Assistant Manager positions are located in Tallahassee, FL, at 379 Tallahassee, FL Governor's Square, 1500 Apalachee Pkwy, STE 1215, Tallahassee, FL 32301, USA. These roles support Buckle’s mission to create the most enjoyable shopping experience possible for guests. The AIT is a progression to the Assistant Manager and shares many core duties while adding higher‑level responsibilities for leadership, training, and store management activities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide legendary guest service on the sales floor, in fitting rooms, and at the register.
  • Use product knowledge and sales techniques to recommend merchandise, answer guest questions, and create wardrobe experiences.
  • Achieve personal sales‑per‑hour and net sales goals set by store management.
  • Maintain current knowledge of promotions, payment policies, and return procedures.
  • Apply the Sales Presentation Guide (SPG) daily to support sales performance and guest loyalty.
  • Act as the Store Manager in their absence and meet all Buckle business builder standards.
  • Recruit, train, and coach new teammates through the AIT program and ongoing development activities.
  • Build a positive team culture, maintain high standards of dress code, and support team interactions.
  • Assist in store operations: opening/closing checklists, loss prevention, POS procedures, inventory management, and visual merchandising.
  • Travel to cover other stores within the district as needed and handle schedule changes professionally.
  • Communicate policy violations, guest concerns, and merchandise concerns to the Store Manager and higher leadership.
Operations and Visual Standards
  • Follow all loss‑prevention and security guidelines.
  • Execute all point‑of‑sale procedures and handle corporate support calls.
  • Use planner tools to complete opening and closing checklists.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and shoppable store in accordance with Buckle’s mission and visual standards.
  • Complete scheduled shifts, cover shortages, and meet product execution requirements such as markdowns, pulls, and returns to vendors.
Supervisory and Leadership
  • Provide feedback, daily interviews, and support for teammate development.
  • Promote personal and store growth and demonstrate professional and mature relationships with teammates.
  • Handle schedule changes, support team spirit, and oversee small store meetings as needed.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED; or 1–3 months related retail experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

Regular standing, walking, use of hands, reaching, lifting up to 50 lbs, and handling usual retail store noise levels. The role requires agility and visual acuity for product handling and guest service.
