Overview
Position:
Substitute Aide — St. Jerome Regional School, Tamaqua (Diocese of Allentown). Part-Time, multiple openings.
Reports to:
School Principal.
A substitute teacher's aide assists classroom teachers in executing tasks such as evaluating the progress and needs of students and providing support to lead classroom teachers to ensure educational progress.
Responsibilities- Provide instructional reinforcement to students under the direction of the teacher.
- Assist in the preparation of instructional materials, supplies, copying, and decorating bulletin boards.
- Perform classroom clerical duties (e.g., filing, lunch/milk counts, distributing and collecting papers).
- Escort students to and from restrooms, special classes, recess, and lunch.
- Prepare and clean up after snack time.
- Supervise students before/after school hours (recess, lunch, dismissal).
- Communicate parental concerns to the teacher; maintain confidentiality of student information.
- Attend required in-service days and meetings as specified by the Principal.
- Interact professionally with administrators, faculty, and staff; support the overall education program.
- Follow all policies of The Diocese of Allentown and St. Jerome Regional School.
- Other duties as assigned by the Principal or Teacher.
- High School Diploma
- A minimum of 2 years of college or related coursework in child development
- Previous experience with children.
- Understanding of child development and ability to relate to students.
- Initiative and ability to follow a teacher's direction.
- Fairness and patience in handling classroom situations; good written and verbal communication skills.
Clear PA State Police Criminal Record Check (PATCH), PA Child Abuse History, and FBI Criminal Background Fingerprint Check (Act 153 of 2014, at least 1 year old). Attend Protecting God’s Children and Mandated Reporter Training.
Physical DemandsRegularly stand, walk, sit, and talk; use of equipment; possible exposure to bacteria and communicable diseases. May reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; lift/move small stacks of textbooks and equipment. Visual and auditory requirements described for typical classroom work.
Working ConditionsNormal classroom setting. Hours typically 7:45 a.m. to 2:45 p.m., Monday–Friday, with potential after-hours meetings, open houses, or workshops.
