Overview
Pharmacy Technician role Pharmacy Technician is responsible for assisting with the practice of pharmacy in accordance with state and federal regulations. The incumbent uses pharmacy systems to obtain patient and drug information and process prescriptions. Supervision is received from the Pharmacist who reviews work for attainment of objectives and adherence to policies and procedures.
Responsibilities- Reviews and complies with the Pharmacy Technician Code of Conduct.
- Greet health care providers and patients in person or by phone; answer questions and requests; refer inquiries to the Pharmacist when needed.
- Maintain pharmacy inventory by checking stock, anticipating needs, placing and expediting orders, verifying receipt, and removing outdated drugs.
- Maintain knowledge of asset protection techniques, create claims for order errors and damaged goods.
- Keep a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Utilize pharmacy systems to enter patient and drug information; ensure accuracy; fill prescriptions by retrieving, counting, and pouring medications; verify medicine and check for possible interactions.
- Report prescription errors to the Pharmacist and follow company policies on errors and quality improvement.
- Follow applicable government regulations including HIPAA, Medicare and co-pay requirements.
- Engage patients by offering assistance, resolving issues and answering questions to ensure a positive patient experience.
- Register sales on the assigned cash register and handle cash as required.
- Direct and assist team members to maintain workflow and meet deadlines as assigned by the Pharmacy Manager or Pharmacist on duty.
- Process claims for third-party reimbursement to obtain payment.
- Earn and maintain required certifications and licensure; attend trainings and complete continuing education credits.
- Maintain knowledge and skill in healthcare and pharmacy.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of Chen Med products, services, standards, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of pharmacy law and medical terminology
- Strong interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills
- Good math and analytical skills
- Ability to multitask, work independently, meet deadlines and be flexible
- Excellent organization and attention to detail
- Basic proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Fluency in English (spoken and written)
- May require travel nationwide for training and support
- High school diploma or equivalent; experience may substitute for education on a year-for-year basis
- Board of Pharmacy technician registration; maintain current licensure and certification for state
- Minimum one (1) year of experience in a pharmacy setting, including pharmacy/medical data entry
