Street works Inspector needed around Somerset Paying £23 per hr

Full time hours on a temporary basis

We are looking for a proactive and experienced Streetworks Inspector to join the Highways and Network Management Team.

This is a predominantly remote and field-based role, requiring regular travel across the borough/network to carry out inspections of street works and highway activities. You will spend the majority of your time on‑site, monitoring works, identifying defects, ensuring compliance with legislation, and working collaboratively with utility companies, contractors, and other stakeholders.

The successful candidate will play a key role in protecting the highway asset, ensuring public safety, and minimising disruption caused by street and roadworks.

• Carry out inspections of street works and roadworks undertaken by statutory undertakers and contractors.
• Identify, record, and raise defects in accordance with relevant legislation, codes of practice, and local procedures.
• Monitor compliance with permit conditions, safety requirements, and reinstatement standards.
• Investigate customer complaints and reports relating to street works activities.
• Liaise with utility companies, contractors, developers, and internal departments to resolve issues and improve compliance.
• Attend site meetings and represent the authority at meetings with statutory undertakers and other stakeholders.
• Maintain accurate inspection records using electronic systems and mobile devices.
• Support the coordination and management of street works activities to minimise disruption to the travelling public.
• Contribute to performance monitoring and reporting requirements.
