Teaching Personnel are working with specialist SEMH provisions and alternative settings across Stockport and Tameside, supporting them in recruiting resilient, compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistants/Behaviour Mentors for the new academic year.

About the RoleAs a Behaviour Mentor, you’ll support pupils who may experience social, emotional, and mental health challenges, helping them engage with education in a positive and structured way.
- Supporting students with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, and complex backgrounds
- Building strong, trusting relationships to support emotional wellbeing
- Assisting with behaviour regulation and de‑escalation strategies
- Providing 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual needs
- Helping create a safe, structured and inclusive learning environment
- Working collaboratively with teachers, pastoral teams, and external professionals

Who We’re Looking ForWe welcome applicants from a range of backgrounds, including:
- Education and teaching support
- Youth work and mentoring
- Residential or care work
- Psychology and education graduates
You’ll be a great fit if you:
- Have experience supporting young people (SEMH experience desirable but not essential)
- Are confident, or willing to learn, how to support challenging behaviour
- Have a calm, resilient and patient approach
- Are passionate about supporting vulnerable pupils
- Can commit to Monday–Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm
- Hold (or are willing to apply for) an Enhanced DBS on the Update Service
