Now in its 100th year, Rodo Limited is a 4th generation private company based in Manchester and is the largest supplier of decorating sundries to the professional market under the Pro Dec brand. Rodo is also a major player in industrial safety footwear and PPE product market under the Blackrock brand.

The company enjoys year on year growth, with forecasted turnover for the current financial year of £52M, with substantial anticipated growth in the future. This is a business-critical role for a seasoned finance leader who can drive meaningful results at a pivotal phase of expansion.

About the Role

This role is for a commercially astute, strategically focussed individual who can build, influence and accelerate business growth, supporting Rodo in its ability to react quickly to new opportunities and evolving challenges. The ideal candidate must have the ability and passion to apply themselves outside of the traditional finance role to help deliver ambitious business objectives.

The successful candidate will be a graduate fully qualified accountant with at least 5 years PQE in a senior commercial role, preferably within a trading business that has international operations. They must be highly IT literate with the ability to produce and interrogate data. A hands‑on proactive individual with stature and gravitas who can gain credibility quickly. A confident presenter able to influence senior stakeholders and challenge status quo constructively.

Job Summary

Most accounting processing duties are currently undertaken by a fully qualified Financial Controller which allows the successful candidate to concentrate on strategic, management‑focused initiatives that impact business performance.

The successful applicant will be a key ally to the Managing Director, to whom they will report. This person will also sit alongside senior colleagues on the Executive Management Team, where they will be expected to act as a senior advisor, delivering financial and economic insight to support and improve outcomes.

Responsibilities
  • Manage and lead the finance team (x 5 across accounting, purchase ledger and credit control)
  • Contribute towards the commercial strategies of the business relating to growth, profitability, return on investment, identification of opportunities and the smooth operation of all facets of the business
  • Interrogate systems and data, using financial insight to drive performance and effective decision making
  • Challenge commercial teams and influence senior stakeholders
  • Work closely with the Managing Director to achieve all agreed financial and operational objectives
  • Exchange rate management and strategies
  • Control and allocation of rebate and marketing budgets, circa £3M
  • Formulate and implement annual financial budgets
  • Prepare audit files and liaise with company auditors
  • Formulate monthly reporting packs for presentation to monthly management meetings
  • Approve and monitor capital expenditure programmes
  • Liaise with external professionals including lawyers, property advisers, pension fund trustees, local authorities and insurers
  • Company secretarial duties
  • Agree individual customer trading agreements allied with account performance analytics
  • Annual payroll negotiations and bonus scheme incentivisation schemes
  • Meet with other departmental heads to review projects, presentations and resource requirements
  • Ensure full compliance with all fiscal and statutory reporting legislation and responsibilities
  • Contribute towards effective and responsible corporate governance
  • Review, update and maintain competent and effective systems of internal control throughout the business
