CNC Turner
Location:
Hyde, SK14
Salary: £18.37ph - £35,343 per annum
Hours:
Monday - Thursday 7:45am - 5:00pm & Friday 7:45am - 10:45am
An experienced CNC Turner is required to set up, operate, and maintain CNC turning (lathe) machines to manufacture precision-engineered components in line with engineering drawings and technical specifications. The role demands accuracy, technical expertise, and a strong commitment to quality, productivity, and health & safety.
Key Responsibilities- Set up and operate CNC turning (lathe) machines to manufacture precision components
- Read and interpret engineering drawings, technical specifications, and work instructions
- Create and edit CNC part programmes where required
- Load CNC programmes, set tool offsets, and prove out new or revised programmes
- Select appropriate cutting tools, inserts, fixtures, and work holding equipment
- Monitor machining operations, adjusting feeds, speeds, and offsets to maintain quality and efficiency
- Produce components to tight tolerances and specified surface finish requirements
- Carry out in-process inspections using precision measuring equipment (micrometers, vernier calipers, bore gauges, etc.)
- Identify machining defects, troubleshoot issues, and implement corrective actions
- Perform routine machine maintenance and basic fault-finding to minimise downtime
- Complete production, inspection, and quality documentation accurately
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe working environment
- Comply with all company health & safety, quality, and environmental procedures
Skills & Qualifications
- Proven experience as a CNC Turner, CNC Lathe Operator, or CNC Machinist (Turning)
- Strong understanding of CNC turning processes, tooling, and machining techniques
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T
- Experience using CNC control systems such as Fanuc, Siemens, Haas, or Mazatrol
- Knowledge of tool setting, offsets, and programme proving
- Experience with live tooling and Y-axis CNC lathes advantageous
- Excellent attention to detail with a strong focus on quality
- Good problem-solving and troubleshooting skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team
- Engineering apprenticeship, technical qualification, or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering or Precision Machining
- Minimum 2 years' experience operating CNC turning machines
- Experience with in a precision engineering or manufacturing environment desirable
- Manufacturing/engineering workshop environment; standing for extended periods
- Manual handling of metal components and tooling; PPE required at all times
- Shift work and overtime may be required to meet production demands
