Our client, a well-established heavy engineering company, is currently seeking an experienced Manual Turner / Setter Operator to join their machine shop team on the day shift.
This is a permanent opportunity within a specialist heavy engineering environment, where the successful candidate will be responsible for setting and operating manual turning machines to manufacture medium to heavy engineering components.
The role will involve working from customer-issued engineering drawings and specifications, producing high-quality components to tight tolerances. Due to the nature of the business, experience working with large fabrications, castings, and heavy engineering components would be highly advantageous.
Key ResponsibilitiesSetting and operating manual turning machines.
Producing medium to heavy engineering components from customer drawings and specifications.
Working with large fabrications, castings, and complex engineering parts.
Reading and interpreting detailed engineering drawings.
Selecting suitable tooling and machining methods.
Carrying out accurate self-inspection using manual measuring equipment.
Ensuring all work meets customer quality standards and specifications.
Maintaining a safe and organised working environment.
Supporting production requirements and completing overtime when required.
The successful candidate will have:
Previous experience setting and operating manual turning machines.
A strong background within heavy engineering, machining, or similar manufacturing environments.
The ability to work from engineering drawings independently.
Experience machining medium to large components.
Good knowledge of tooling, speeds, feeds, and machining processes.
Ability to inspect own work using manual measuring equipment.
A strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
A flexible approach and willingness to work overtime when required.

- Thursday: 08:00 - 16:30Friday: 08:00 - 13:00
37 paid hours per week
30-minute unpaid lunch break Monday
- ThursdayNo lunch break on Friday
Minimum expectation of 11 hours overtime per week.
Overtime paid at T+1/3.
Sunday overtime paid at T+1/2.
Based on the standard working week, the basic salary is approximately:
£32,700 - £38,500 per year (based on £17.00 - £20.00 per hour)
With regular overtime, expected earnings can increase to approximately:
£45,000 - £54,000+ per year

Company pension scheme with an 8% total contribution (5% employee, 3% employer).
Health & Safety bonus scheme paying £250 every 6 months for qualifying employees.
