Position Summary

This is a high-impact accounting leadership role supporting the top finance executive and serving as a critical resource within the accounting function. The successful candidate will oversee day-to-day accounting operations, ensure the integrity of financial reporting under both GAAP and statutory frameworks, and serve as a trusted resource across compliance, audit, and operational finance activities. This position offers meaningful visibility and a clear path for growth within a financially sound organization.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and coordinate the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close cycles to ensure accurate and timely completion
  • Prepare and critically review journal entries, account reconciliations, and supplemental schedules in support of both GAAP and statutory reporting requirements
  • Take an active role in producing regulatory filings and submissions required by insurance industry oversight bodies
  • Develop and deliver financial statements, internal management reports, and detailed variance analyses for leadership review
  • Monitor the accuracy and integrity of all general ledger and subsidiary ledger activity on an ongoing basis
  • Verify that accounting practices and financial operations remain in full compliance with applicable regulatory standards and generally accepted accounting principles
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for both internal and external audit engagements, preparing documentation and addressing auditor inquiries as needed
  • Ensure timely and accurate fulfillment of all state-level regulatory reporting obligations
  • Contribute to the ongoing design, documentation, and testing of internal controls over financial reporting
  • Partner with cross-functional colleagues in operational departments to support accurate premium accounting, loss reserving, and cost allocation processes
  • Contribute to the annual budgeting cycle and rolling forecast updates, including preparing detailed explanations of financial variances
  • Evaluate existing accounting workflows and lead initiatives to strengthen accuracy, efficiency, and control across the department
Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related discipline
  • Minimum of 5 to 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with direct exposure to the property and casualty insurance industry
  • Demonstrated experience with statutory accounting and insurance-specific financial reporting
  • Solid working knowledge of GAAP, statutory accounting principles, and internal control frameworks
  • Proficiency with a major ERP or enterprise accounting platform
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills
  • Strong analytical mindset with exceptional attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy
  • Proven ability to perform effectively under deadline pressure

Preferred

  • Active CPA license or CPA designation strongly preferred
  • Experience with data analysis or financial reporting tools beyond core Excel functionality
  • Background working within a publicly traded or highly regulated organization
Why it's a Great Place to Work
  • Tenured, respected finance leadership that is invested in developing the people around them
  • A culture built on professionalism, focus, and mutual respect rather than noise and constant change
  • Remarkably low turnover that reflects a workforce of people who genuinely want to stay
  • Hybrid flexibility available once fully onboarded, offering work-life balance without sacrificing team cohesion
  • Broad exposure to both GAAP and statutory accounting in a complex, multi-state regulatory environment
  • A visible, high-trust role with meaningful potential for advancement as the organization continues to grow
