A Kid's Place of Tampa Bay, Inc. offers residential services for children from birth to age 18 who have been removed from their homes due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The organization focuses on keeping sibling groups together in a safe, stable, and nurturing environment while addressing their social, educational, medical, and psychological needs. A Kid's Place has expanded to support foster youth aging out of care, aged 18–23, and plans to grow further with an additional home and a 12,000 sq.
ft. Activity Center by 2025. Their mission is centered on raising the standard of residential care for foster children and fostering a sense of security and stability for youth in need.

Position Summary
The Youth Care Worker supports the daily care, safety, and well-being of children residing in a residential group home, with an average age of young adolescence. This role works closely with House Parents and onsite staff to provide trauma-informed, nurturing, and structured care. The Youth Care Worker helps create a safe and supportive environment that promotes healthy development, emotional regulation, and positive social interactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist House Parents and other residential staff in the supervision, guidance, and care of youth.
- Ensure the safety and security of all residents at all times, including during recreational, educational, therapeutic, and transportation activities.
- Transport youth safely to and from school, appointments, activities, or other destinations, following all safety protocols and traffic regulations.
- Implement trauma‑informed care practices, recognizing and responding to the effects of trauma on youth behavior and emotional needs.
- Apply de‑scalation techniques to safely manage challenging behaviors or crisis situations, using appropriate interventions to maintain a safe environment.
- Support youth in developing coping skills, self‑regulation, and positive social interactions.
- Monitor youth behavior, document observations, and report concerns or incidents to supervising staff.
- Assist with daily routines, including meal times, hygiene, recreational activities, and school participation.
- Participate in team meetings, training sessions, and care planning to support individualized youth needs.
- Model positive behavior and maintain professional boundaries with all youth.
- Respond calmly and appropriately to crises, behavioral challenges, or emergencies, following established protocols.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college or training in human services, psychology, social work, or related field preferred.
- Experience working with children or adolescents, especially in residential or care settings strongly preferred.
- Knowledge of trauma‑informed care principles, child development, and behavior management techniques, including de‑scalation strategies.
- Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record.
- Strong communication, observation, and teamwork skills.
- Ability to pass Level 2 background check and drug screening.
- Ability to maintain a safe and structured environment while demonstrating patience and empathy.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to engage in physical activities with youth, including lifting, bending, and active supervision during recreational activities.
- Ability to respond quickly in emergency situations.
- Residential group home setting with direct interaction with children and other care staff.
- Team‑oriented, fast‑paced, and dynamic environment requiring flexibility and adaptability.
