Open Rank-Hospital Medicine (Finance)

The Morsani College of Medicine, Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hospital Medicine is looking for an Academic Hospitalist (Open-Rank) who is willing to work day shifts (7 am – 7 pm) and some night service (7 pm – 7 am). The Academic Hospitalist provides inpatient care for patients in an academic medical setting. This role includes providing direct patient care, consulting with other medical staff, interpreting laboratory results, educating medical staff and students, and managing patient flow.

The Academic Hospitalist will also be responsible for ensuring quality and safety standards are maintained, coordinating patient care within the hospital system, developing and implementing care protocols, and providing medical advice to referring physicians. In addition, the Academic Hospitalist may present research projects to further advance the field of hospital medicine. The position reports to the Division Chief and/or other appropriate higher-level administrators of a state university.

Responsibilities also include teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities; academic advising; and representation of the university, college/school, or department/unit on university and/or statewide committees. BC/BE in Internal Medicine and/or Family Medicine are encouraged to apply.

1–3 years of physician or hospitalist experience; experience with hospital medicine; previous experience in an academic medical center; proven track record in teaching and/or clinical research preferred.

Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor, normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.

Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent. To perform this position, the candidate must obtain and maintain a full unrestricted FL medical license, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals assigned to perform clinical duties. The candidate will also participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.

Must be board certified/eligible in Internal Medicine.
