Full Time Principal Faculty, Physician Assistant

Join South University as a full‑time Principal Faculty member in the Physician Assistant (PA) Program. You will be responsible for course instruction, design, coordination, and assessment in both didactic and clinical phases, supporting students to achieve the program’s learning outcomes and necessary PA competencies.

Position Summary

The Principal Faculty member is a key contributor to curriculum development, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement in accordance with ARC‑PA Accreditation Standards. Responsibilities include teaching, advising, program planning, and participation in accreditation and admissions activities. The role requires a faculty appointment within the PA Program and a commitment to South University’s philosophy of student success and innovation.

Key Job Elements
  • Provide teaching and instruction in the PA program, coordinating and delivering courses as assigned.
  • Teach in areas of clinical and professional expertise; serve as small‑group facilitator and student faculty advisor.
  • Assist the Director of Didactic Education and the Director of Clinical Education with administrative coordination of didactic and clinical phases.
  • Contribute to curriculum development, including design, implementation, evaluation, and continuous quality improvement initiatives.
  • Evaluate student performance during OSCEs, lab practicals, clinical reasoning sessions, problem‑solving activities, technical skills training, and both didactic and clinical phases.
  • Review and evaluate student assignments, projects, and presentations using evidence‑based resources.
  • Develop course examinations and map exam questions to ARC‑PA Accreditation Standards and the NCCPA Content Blueprint.
  • Provide input to support accreditation efforts, program self‑assessment, and periodic review of the program’s mission and goals.
  • Participate in admissions activities, including open houses, recruitment, application review, interviews, and selection.
  • Engage in service, campus and community outreach, Program Advisory Committee meetings, and scholarly activities appropriate to the role.
  • Participate annually in faculty development focused on teaching effectiveness and current medical knowledge.
  • Assist with clinical site development, monitoring, and relationship management as needed.
  • Provide remedial instruction to support student academic success and progression.
  • Assume other responsibilities as assigned by the Directors of Didactic/Clinical Education, the Program Director, or campus leadership.
  • Perform duties outlined in the faculty job description and in accordance with the South University Faculty Supplement.
Job Requirements
  • Terminal degree in healthcare disciplines such as PA, pharmacy, medicine, or public health; a master’s degree is required.
  • Eligibility for professional licensure/certification in the applicable state and discipline or an active, valid, unencumbered state license.
  • 1–2 years of graduate health‑related teaching experience highly preferred.
  • Two years of clinical experience required, if applicable.
  • Experience in PA/medical classroom teaching preferred.
  • PAs must have graduated from an accredited PA program and hold current NCCPA certification or emeritus status.
  • Emeritus clinicians need not hold active licensure.

  • Superior organization, prioritization, and self‑motivation.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, Exam Soft, and WebAdMIT.

  • Resolution of inquiries and complaints from employees, students, and regulators.

Work Environment

Work requires regular professional communication in person, over the phone, video conference, email, and other electronic means.
