Position Details

The Music Department within the College of Arts and Letters seeks a full‑time, non‑tenure‑track position as an Assistant Teaching Professor of Music with experience in popular musics (broadly defined) of the twentieth and twenty‑first centuries. The position begins in August 2026 and is renewable, with eligibility for promotion.

The University of Tampa is a medium‑sized, comprehensive, residentially‑based private institution with more than 11,000 undergraduate and graduate students on a 110‑acre campus. Responsibilities
  • Teach music humanities survey courses on popular styles (e.g., jazz, rock, pop, film music) to majors and non‑majors.
  • Teach a music‑centered humanities class focused on reading and writing for the university’s general education curriculum.
  • Maintain and expand the department’s course offerings in popular musical styles.
  • Participate in departmental and college/university service.
  • Occasionally oversee senior capstone research, where appropriate.
Required Qualifications
  • Master’s degree in Music.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. (or ABD) in musicology, ethnomusicology, or a related field.
  • Successful record of teaching at the college level.
  • Scholarly specialization in popular musics of the twentieth or twenty‑first centuries (e.g., jazz, rock, pop, film/game music).
  • Experience teaching non‑major music courses.
  • Experience teaching writing within a music curriculum.
