Role Mission: Students and families are key stakeholders. The School Counselor leads the campus family engagement vision, social emotional learning program, and coordination of mental health and counseling supports for all scholars on the campus. The School Counselor ensures authentic relationships with students and families, data maintenance and analysis to drive campus strategies, and accountability of the campus team to fulfill their roles.

Family engagement and student success is the responsibility of the entire campus team.

When the work is led effectively, staff understand their roles in supporting students and families, have the data needed to drive action, and engage with students and parents to help all students develop the academic and social skills needed to go to and through college. The School Counselor contributes to a safe physical and emotional learning environment where students can grow and succeed in and outside the classroom.

What We Offer

Compensation: Salaries for this role typically fall between $60,569 and $72,683, commensurate with relevant experience and qualifications and aligned with internal equity. This role is eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.

Other Benefits: IDEA offers a comprehensive benefits plan that covers the majority of the base medical premium and contributes to costs for a spouse/domestic partner and children. Benefits include:

  • Paid Family Leave:
    Eligible staff may receive up to 8 weeks of paid leave for birth or adoption, based on tenure and caregiver designation.
  • Tuition Reimbursement:
    Up to 50% of tuition toward a qualifying degree program, up to $5,250 per year, subject to manager discretion and budget.
  • Employer-Paid Mental/Behavioral Health: 5 face-to-face counseling sessions per year, unlimited 24/7 telephonic counseling, and other work-life services at no cost.

What You Bring — Competencies

Qualifications:

  • Education:

    Master’s degree in School Counseling, Counseling, Administration, or related field
  • Experience:

    Previous experience in a school or school setting
  • License or Certification:
    Valid School Counselor Certificate or Mental Health Provider License (examples: Clinical Social Worker, LCSW, LMHC, LMFT, School Counselor)

Knowledge and

Skills:

  • Proven track record of success
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to manage student behavior

  • Ability to adapt to multiple situations in the school environment
What You’ll Do — Accountabilities

90% Student Persistence

  • Lead the school’s vision for retaining all students by directing and coordinating family engagement and student persistence with campus stakeholders.
  • Provide individual/group counseling for at‑risk students and refer to campus-based Licensed Mental Health Providers or outside agencies as needed.
  • Plan and execute student and family engagement events aligned to the school’s culture and community needs, fostering authentic relationships with families.
  • Lead professional development for the campus to clarify roles in family engagement.
  • Manage campus persistence data with the PEIMS team, ensuring 100% data accuracy and reporting; notify stakeholders of data rationale and trends.
  • Partner with grade level teams to identify and coordinate interventions for at‑risk students with accountability structures for admins, GTLs, and teachers.
