Exceptional Student Education RISE Teacher - IDEA Victory College Prep (Immediate Opening)

Join to apply for the Exceptional Student Education RISE Teacher role at IDEA Public Schools. The RISE program stands for Reaching Independence through Support and Education. IDEA Exceptional Student RISE teachers work with students who have a wide range of learning, cognitive, emotional, and physical disabilities and are held to high achievement expectations to reach their fullest potential. Teachers in this program educate students in subjects such as Reading, Writing, Math, History, Adaptive PE, and other areas, and provide resources, education, training, and emotional support to families for long-term planning for their children.

Responsibilities
  • Adapt lessons to meet the needs of students
  • Support coordination of related services for students on their caseload
  • Develop Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for a caseload of students
  • Implement IEPs, assess students’ performance, and track progress
  • Update IEPs throughout the school year to reflect progress and goals
  • Assess students’ skills to determine needs and develop teaching plans
  • Collect and analyze student data to maximize achievement
  • Discuss students’ progress with parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators
  • Prepare and help students transition between grades and after graduation
  • Implement state learning standards and IDEA curricula and assessments
  • Submit weekly lesson plans two weeks in advance for feedback
  • Use formal and informal assessments to track progress and adjust lesson plans; update gradebook weekly
  • Communicate students’ progress with students and families on a weekly basis
  • Facilitate and use technology as an educational tool to improve achievement and manage tasks
  • Implement a clear behavior management system aligned to campus initiatives
  • Contribute to a positive school-wide culture and community
  • Establish and maintain cooperative relationships with students and families
  • Host necessary tutoring sessions to meet all students’ needs
  • Participate in weekly manager check-ins, grade-level meetings, before/after-school duties, and school-wide functions
  • Engage in summer and year-long learning and development
  • Minimum of 40+ hours spent at school per week
  • Additional responsibilities may include after-school tutoring or Saturday school
Qualifications
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited four-year educational institution
  • Experience:

    Experience in an Exceptional Student Education classroom with students who have significant disabilities
  • Licenses or

    Certifications:

    Valid state certification in Exceptional Student Education; current GT endorsement or willingness to earn GT endorsement upon hire required
Knowledge and Skills
  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to instruct students and manage student behavior
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to adapt to varied school environments
  • Ability to facilitate Admission, Review and Dismissal meetings
  • Strong family engagement and communication
  • Record of results for students who are academically at risk
