Position SummaryThis is a professional non‑instructional advising position supporting both a department and the College of Arts and Sciences on the Tampa campus. The role reports directly to the College of Arts & Sciences Director of Advising or Assistant Director of Advising with a dotted line to the department chair. CAS Advisors represent the college, the department, and USF advising in public forums with a professional demeanor and caring attitude.
The position requires strong computer, problem‑solving, organizational, human relational, and communication skills.
- Provide guidance to students on degree requirements, appropriate class selection, academic policies and procedures, and campus resources through individual consultations, electronic communication, group sessions, and presentations.
- Assist students in identifying long‑term goals and career plans, positioning them to meet graduation requirements within appropriate periods while preparing for future goals.
- Foster student well‑being and retention by offering holistic support that helps them navigate challenges and achieve academic and personal goals.
- Maintain detailed advising notes for each student interaction and graduation plans that align with CAS standards.
- Manage administrative tasks such as responding to student emails, processing permits, and handling enrollment‑related requests.
- Provide support to the CAS Advising team and collaborate with USF stakeholders to ensure all CAS students receive timely and accurate assistance.
- Stay informed through participation in training, team meetings, professional development, and university‑wide advising discussions.
- Use digital literacy skills to implement targeted interventions to support student persistence, engagement, and overall success.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Bachelor’s degree in any academic field.
- Minimum of one year of experience at an academic institution or in a professional career field.
- Requires criminal history background check – Level 1.
- 4 years of directly relevant experience may substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
- 6 years of directly relevant experience may substitute for a master’s degree.
University will be closed for Winter Break from December 22, 2025 through January 2, 2026. Applications will begin to be reviewed upon return the week of January 5, 2026.
