Spec 2, Communications and Electronics role at Hillsborough County Public Schools
. The Specialist 2, Communications and Electronics will serve as the district’s telecommunications resident expert and provide technical support for low voltage components including intercom, public address, and stage lighting systems.
- Coordinates with planning and construction all scheduled telecommunications and low voltage projects.
- Troubleshoots complex technical problems that impact district telephone services and provides problem resolution.
- Serves as lead for all telecommunications special projects and as the telecommunications liaison for internal and external business partners.
- Serves as primary point-of-contact for maintenance and new construction of telephone support services for 9,500+ telephone circuits, with providers including PAETEC, Verizon, SUNCOM, and the Florida State Department of Management Services.
- Assists in the development of department specifications and attends preconstruction and work-in-progress meetings to assure ongoing compliance at construction and renovation sites.
- Performs final inspections of new and renovated sites to verify contractor compliance with specifications and to ensure existing systems have not been damaged.
- Researches, prepares, and presents telecommunications projects and system plans for management and senior staff; develops recommendations for new equipment and assists Procurement with FRP/FRQ/ITQ/ITB proposals.
- Understands and interprets schematic and architectural drawings to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Tests and diagnoses complex systems and assists technicians in identifying and correcting recurring failures.
- Provides quality assurance on daily work by district personnel and contracted services, and helps develop a district-wide training program.
- Provides technical direction and training to department personnel.
- Maintains safe, proper, and efficient operation of systems within the assigned department.
- Exercises proactive leadership in promoting the district’s vision and mission.
- Performs any other duties as assigned.
- Experience:
Five (5) years of increasingly responsible experience in telecommunications and low voltage repair. Substitution may be made for up to two years of experience by completing college coursework (one year of coursework equals 30 semester hours). - Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
Possesses a current Florida Class "E" driver’s license. - Language Skills:
Reads and interprets safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals; writes routine reports and correspondence; speaks effectively before groups. - Mathematical Skills:
Calculates figures and amounts, applies basic algebra and geometry concepts. - Reasoning Ability:
Solves practical problems and interprets instructions furnished in various formats. - Computer Skills:
Microsoft Office. - Physical Demands:
See district description for activity requirements (standing, walking, sitting, climbing, bending, etc.). Lifting up to 35 pounds. Reaching with both hands; overhead activities; exposure to noisy and variable environmental conditions.
