Job Description

Trans Core (TCI), a subsidiary of ST Engineering, is seeking a full-time Project Engineer II to join our team in Tampa, Florida.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Key responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Provide technical oversight for concurrent ITS and transportation projects.
  • Evaluate design proposals and project plans for constructability, accessibility, and compliance regarding field devices, communications, and power systems.
  • Maintain organized project documentation and support progress reporting.
  • Conduct field reviews to evaluate existing conditions, assess constructability, and ensure compliance.
  • Champion research and development initiatives to improve existing processes, test alternative component technologies, and evaluate new materials for cost efficiency, reliability, and performance improvement.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to proposals, technical write‑ups, and client presentations.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and serve as a technical point of contact.
Education and Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in civil, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering.
  • 5+ years of relevant experience in transportation, ITS, or related projects.
  • Experience with FDOT or public‑sector projects is preferred.
Required Skills
  • Working knowledge of ITS devices (CCTV, DMS, MVDS, RSU, WWVDS, etc.)
  • Understanding of fiber optic and Ethernet communication networks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with attention to technical detail.
  • Ability to interpret design plans, schematics, and specifications.
  • Capability to work in both the office and in the field as required.
Desired Skills
  • Familiarity with FDOT design standards, specifications, and TSM&O guidelines.
  • Experience with networking fundamentals (Layer 2/3, NTCIP, TCP/IP).
  • Exposure to project scheduling tools (MS Project, Primavera, etc.).
  • Experience with GIS applications (ArcGIS, ITSFM).
  • Field experience related to ITS cabinet wiring, communications testing, or system troubleshooting.
  • New product introduction and R&D experience.
  • Process improvement experience.
