Project Engineer / Project Manager (Civil / Geotechnical Capital Projects)
We are conducting a search for a Project Engineer / Project Manager to lead the financial and construction oversight of capital infrastructure and mine-related projects within a large North American industrial organization.
This role manages multiple complex scopes, including geotechnical systems, water conveyance infrastructure, mine expansions, and regulated environmental projects, from initiation through completion. The position works cross‑functionally with internal engineering, environmental, and technical subject matter experts, as well as external engineering and construction partners.
This is a hands‑on project leadership role suited for candidates with a civil or geotechnical engineering background, strong contractor management experience, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic operating environments.
Key Responsibilities- Manage capital projects with accountability for scope, schedule, cost, safety, quality, and contractor performance
- Execute projects in accordance with internal capital project governance frameworks from concept through close‑out
- Oversee engineering design activities, including development of work packages, management of external engineering firms, and review of technical deliverables
- Collaborate during Front‑End Loading (FEL) phases to define scopes, milestones, and deliverables
- Coordinate procurement activities including RFQs/RFPs, bid evaluations, and contract administration
- Supervise and manage design contracts to ensure adherence to quality, budget, and schedule expectations
- Prepare and present project status updates to senior leadership
- Lead and promote strong project safety culture
, including participation in field safety initiatives - Coordinate distribution of engineering deliverables to all project stakeholders
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Civil or Geotechnical preferred)
- Experience working with engineering contractors and consulting firms
- Experience navigating capital funding approval processes
- Strong project leadership and people management skills
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities
- Engineer II: 2+ years of relevant engineering or project experience
- Engineer III: 4+ years of relevant engineering or project experience
- Senior Engineer: 8+ years of relevant engineering or project experience
- Experience with Primavera P6 or similar scheduling tools
- Familiarity with SAP and/or Maximo
- PMP or other project‑related certification
- Mid‑Senior level
